This OM3 LC duplex cord gives you dependable 10 Gigabit performance at a budget-friendly price. Both ends use LC/UPC connectors with a compact ferrule and push-pull latch that fit SFP and SFP+ ports. The laser-optimized 50/125 µm OM3 fiber carries 10G up to about 300 meters, which covers most links inside a building or a small campus.
Two fibers travel together in a 2.0 mm duplex zipcord. Its aqua jacket identifies laser-optimized multimode. Riser-rated OFNR jacketing suits everyday indoor runs and floor-to-floor shafts. It also mates cleanly with OM4 cords when your plant grows
10G Where You Need It
Most office and school networks don't need extreme distances. They need reliable 10G between closets, servers, and core switches. OM3 delivers exactly that. It handles 10GBASE-SR up to about 300 meters and 1 Gigabit well beyond.
A Natural Match for OM3 Backbones
If your existing fiber plant is OM3, matching patch cords keep performance predictable. This cord drops right into OM3 panels and avoids the confusion of mixing grades. It also connects cleanly to OM4 and OM5, since all three share a 50 µm core.
Where It Gets Used
Network teams use OM3 LC cords for top-of-rack server links. They also use them for storage connections and uplinks from access switches to distribution switches. In smaller data rooms, OM3 often handles the entire 10G layer at a lower cost than OM4.
LC Connector Advantages
LC connectors pack twice as many ports into the same panel space as SC. Their latch locks firmly, so cords don't slip out when someone works nearby. Ceramic ferrules hold tight tolerances for low insertion loss.
Polarity and Troubleshooting
Polarity on this zipcord is standard A-to-B. When a new link doesn't come up, first check that the transceivers match and are rated for multimode. Then swap the LC legs at one end. A visual fault locator quickly confirms continuity on each fiber.
Keep 62.5 Micron Separate
OM3 should never be patched to 62.5 µm OM1 fiber. The core size mismatch adds loss and can cause intermittent errors. Aqua and orange jacket colors make the difference easy to spot.
When to Step Up to OM4
OM3 covers most 10G needs well. If you plan to run 25G or longer 10G links, though, OM4 adds valuable reach. Mixed racks work fine, since the two grades mate cleanly. Just remember that the link performs at the lower grade's level.
Riser Jacket and Handling
The OFNR jacket meets riser fire ratings. Route the cord through managers with smooth curves, and avoid hanging weight on the connectors. Clean each end face before mating.
