Some single-mode links can't tolerate reflected light. RF video, PON, and other analog signals are the usual examples. This duplex cord uses SC/APC connectors on both ends, with an 8-degree angled polish that sends reflections into the cladding instead of back toward the laser. Inside is bend-insensitive OS2 9/125 µm fiber (G.657.A1). Green connector bodies mark the angled polish clearly. The 2.0 mm duplex zipcord carries two fibers in one jacket. Its yellow riser-rated (OFNR) jacket meets fire code for indoor runs and vertical shafts. It's the right match for headend racks and PON gear that already use SC/APC ports.
Why the Angle Matters
A flat UPC end face reflects a little light straight back down the fiber. For most digital data, that's fine. Analog video and passive optical networks are far more sensitive. The 8-degree APC angle bounces reflections out of the core, which pushes return loss to 60 dB or better.
Green Means APC
The industry uses green for APC connectors and blue for single-mode UPC. That color difference matters. Never plug an APC connector into a UPC port. The angled and flat end faces don't line up, which causes high loss and can scratch both ferrules.
Common Applications
APC cords show up in cable TV headends, GPON and XGS-PON equipment, and RF-over-fiber systems. They're also used where precise test measurements matter. Many service providers standardize on SC/APC throughout their outside plant.
Bend-Insensitive Fiber
G.657.A1 fiber handles a 10 mm minimum bend radius while staying compatible with regular G.652.D cable. Cords in headend racks and splice cabinets often take tight turns, and this fiber keeps loss under control when they do.
Duplex Configuration
The zipcord carries two fibers side by side. That suits equipment with separate transmit and receive ports, or two independent single-fiber circuits. Split the legs by hand when ports sit apart.
Care and Code
APC end faces must stay spotless, since even tiny particles raise reflections. Clean with an APC-rated cleaner before each mating. The OFNR jacket suits riser and general indoor spaces, while plenum areas need an OFNP-rated cord.
Duplex or Simplex APC?
Choose this duplex cord when your gear has separate transmit and receive ports, or when two single-fiber circuits run side by side. Many headend receivers and RF transmitters work this way. For a single FTTH drop to an ONT, a simplex APC cord is usually the cleaner fit. Both share the same angled polish and color code.
