10G Without Overspending

From SC Panel to LC Port
Plenty of networks built in the 2000s used SC adapters on their patch panels. Newer switches use LC transceivers. This cord connects the two in one step, so you skip hybrid adapters that add loss and clutter.
Matching Existing OM3 Plants
If your backbone is OM3, keep your patch cords OM3 or better. This cord matches that plant exactly. It also mates cleanly with OM4 and OM5 cords, since they share the same 50 µm core. Avoid connecting it to 62.5 µm OM1 fiber.
LC and SC Connector Design
The LC end uses a 1.25 mm ferrule and a push-pull latch that fits tightly packed SFP+ ports. The SC end uses a 2.5 mm ferrule in a square housing that snaps into standard panel adapters. Both ends have a UPC polish.
Duplex Polarity
The zipcord carries two fibers with standard A-to-B polarity. Transmit at one end meets receive at the other. When a link doesn't come up, swapping the legs at the SC end usually fixes it.
Keep It Clean and Tidy
Dust is the top cause of multimode link problems. Clean the end faces before plugging in. Route the cord through cable managers with smooth curves, and keep it out of plenum spaces, since the OFNR jacket is riser-rated.
Typical Use Cases
This cord connects SFP+ switch ports to SC panels in telecom closets. It links storage arrays and servers to older SC-based patch fields. It's also used for uplinks between floors in office buildings. Anywhere an SC panel meets an LC port on an OM3 network, this cord fits right in.
