Older OM1 networks often end at SC panels or media converters, while newer switches use LC-based SFP ports. This hybrid cord joins the two over 62.5/125 µm multimode fiber. SC/UPC push-pull connectors sit on one end, with compact LC/UPC connectors on the other. A 2.0 mm duplex zipcord carries transmit and receive in one cable. Its orange jacket follows the standard OM1 color code, so it won't get mixed up with aqua 50 µm cords. The riser-rated (OFNR) jacket meets fire code for general indoor use and vertical runs. It works well with media converters and cameras on long-running OM1 networks.
Keep Legacy Links Running on New Gear
Facilities don't always replace fiber when they replace switches. If your building has OM1 cable terminated on SC panels, this cord lets a new LC-equipped switch plug straight in. It's a simple way to stretch the life of a working fiber plant.
OM1 Capabilities
The 62.5 µm core carries 1 Gigabit up to about 275 meters at 850 nm. Fast Ethernet at 1300 nm can reach about 2 kilometers. Many building automation systems, cameras, and access control networks still run at these speeds on OM1.
SC and LC in One Cord
The SC end uses a 2.5 mm ferrule in a square snap-in housing that fits standard panel adapters. The LC end uses a smaller 1.25 mm ferrule with a latch for dense switch ports. Each end has a UPC polish for low loss.
Match 62.5 With 62.5
Only connect this cord to 62.5 µm fiber and optics rated for OM1. Pairing it with 50 µm cable creates a core mismatch, and that can drop several decibels in one direction. The orange jacket keeps the match obvious.
Duplex Polarity
Two fibers share the zipcord in A-to-B polarity. Transmit crosses to receive between the ends. If a port stays dark after connecting, swap the legs at the SC end.
Setup Tips
Label each end with the panel and port number. Clean both connector types before mating, since dust on a multimode end face can drop the link. The OFNR jacket fits riser spaces, while plenum areas call for an OFNP cord.
Media Converters and OM1
Many OM1 networks rely on SC-equipped media converters that turn copper Ethernet into fiber. You'll often find them at cameras, gates, and remote buildings. This cord connects those converters to an LC switch port at the core. That keeps older endpoints online while the network around them modernizes.
