Telecom rooms, carrier handoffs, and media converters often rely on SC ports. This single-mode cord connects them over bend-insensitive OS2 9/125 µm fiber (G.657.A1). Both ends use SC/UPC connectors with a secure square push-pull body. The 2.0 mm duplex zipcord carries transmit and receive in one tidy cable, and the legs pull apart easily for spaced ports. Its yellow jacket follows the industry color code for single-mode fiber, so nobody confuses it with multimode cords in the same rack. The riser-rated (OFNR) jacket meets fire code for indoor runs and vertical shafts. It's a dependable first link between a carrier's demarc and your own network.
Built for Telecom and Carrier Gear
SC remains common on telecom equipment. Optical network terminals, fiber media converters, and many demarcation panels use SC adapters. When a carrier hands off service in your building, an SC to SC single-mode cord is often the first link in the chain.
Single-Mode Distance
OS2 fiber carries light on a tiny 9 µm core with very low attenuation. Paired with long-reach optics, a single-mode link can reach 10 kilometers or more. A short patch cord adds only a sliver of loss, so nearly all your loss budget is left for the backbone.
Bend-Insensitive G.657.A1 Fiber
This cord uses G.657.A1 fiber, which tolerates tighter bends than standard single-mode. That matters in crowded racks, wall-mount boxes, and patch panels with little room to spare. It also mates cleanly with regular G.652.D fiber already in your network.
UPC Polish
The UPC finish gives a clean, flat physical contact between fiber end faces. It's the standard choice for most single-mode Ethernet and data links. Single-mode UPC connectors usually come in blue, which helps you tell them apart from green APC connectors. Never mate UPC with APC, since the mismatched angles cause high loss and can damage both end faces.
Duplex Design and Polarity
The zipcord holds two fibers in one cable. Standard A-to-B polarity crosses transmit to receive across the link. If your link doesn't light up, flip the SC legs at one end and test again.
Riser Jacket Safety
The OFNR jacket is rated for riser shafts and general indoor spaces. Use an OFNP-rated cord in air-handling plenums. Store spare cords in loose coils, and always clean the SC end faces before connecting.
Testing a New Link
Before handing a circuit over, test it end to end. A light source and power meter confirm total loss against your budget. An OTDR can pinpoint a bad splice or a tight bend along the run. Save the results with the circuit ID. Those records make future troubleshooting much faster when a carrier or auditor asks for proof.
