FC connectors screw into place, and that threaded grip holds firm where vibration would loosen other connectors. This single-mode duplex cord carries FC/UPC connectors on both ends with bend-insensitive OS2 9/125 µm fiber (G.657.A1).
It suits test equipment, telecom transport gear, and industrial systems that still rely on FC ports. Its 2.0 mm duplex zipcord keeps both fibers together in one cable. A yellow jacket signals single-mode fiber to every tech on site. An OFNR riser jacket meets fire code inside buildings and up vertical shafts. Labs and transport rooms often keep several on hand.
The Threaded FC Advantage
FC connectors use a keyed ferrule and a threaded coupling nut. You line up the key, push the ferrule in, and screw the nut down. Once tightened, the connector won't work loose from vibration or bumps. That's why FC still appears on lab instruments, transport systems, and equipment mounted near heavy machinery.
Common FC Applications
Optical power meters, light sources, and some OTDRs use FC ports. So do many legacy SONET and DWDM shelves. Industrial controllers and sensing systems also favor FC for its secure fit. This cord connects those devices to each other or to FC patch panels.
Single-Mode Performance
OS2 fiber has a 9 µm core with very low loss per kilometer. It supports long-reach links and precise test measurements. A short patch cord adds almost nothing to the overall loss.
G.657.A1 Bend Tolerance
The bend-insensitive fiber handles a 10 mm minimum bend radius. That's useful in test benches and equipment racks where cords loop tightly between instruments. It also mates with standard G.652.D fiber.
UPC Polish
Both ends use a flat UPC polish suited to most single-mode data and test equipment. Don't connect FC/UPC to FC/APC ports. The angled and flat faces don't meet properly, so loss jumps.
Connecting FC the Right Way
Align the key with the slot before pushing in. Tighten the nut by hand until snug, and never use tools. Overtightening can damage the ferrule or adapter. Loosen fully before pulling the connector out.
FC in the Test Lab
Test benches often run FC connections between light sources, meters, and reference cords. This duplex cord lets you set up two paths at once. That's handy when testing transmit and receive together. Keep test cords separate from production patches, and replace them once readings start to drift.
Jacket and Care
Riser rating covers its use indoors and between floors. Plenum spaces need an OFNP cord. Clean each FC end face before connecting, since test results depend on spotless ferrules.
