Where Single Pigtails Help
Spare strands in a backbone often sit unterminated until they're needed. A simplex pigtail lets you bring one of them online without touching the rest. It also replaces a single damaged connector cleanly.
OM3 Specs
OM3 has 2,000 MHz·km of effective modal bandwidth at 850 nm. IEEE supports 10GBASE-SR over it to 300 meters. Gigabit links go even farther, which suits building automation and security networks.
Aqua for 50 µm
The aqua buffer follows TIA-598 for laser-optimized 50 µm multimode. It helps prevent a splice to orange 62.5 µm OM1 or yellow single-mode, which would add serious loss.
Splicing a Single Strand
Use the fusion splicer's multimode program. Clean the stripped fiber with 99% isopropyl alcohol, cleave it flat, and splice. Shrink a protection sleeve over the joint and seat it in the tray. Leave the coil loose, with no sharp turns near the sleeve, so the splice stays stress-free for years.
OM3 for Building Systems
Security cameras, access control panels, and building automation controllers often run 1 Gigabit over multimode fiber. OM3 handles those links easily across large buildings. A simplex pigtail lets you add a new device without disturbing other circuits.
