This simplex OM4 pigtail terminates one multimode fiber with a factory-polished LC/UPC connector. The aqua 0.9 mm tight buffer marks it as laser-optimized 50 µm fiber, and its firm construction protects the strand during routing.
It's ideal for single-fiber repairs, adding one circuit to an existing panel, or replacing a damaged connector on a backbone strand. The OM4 glass supports 10G and 25G short-reach optics. The buffer is OFNR riser-rated. Pick the 1 m or 3 m length to suit your enclosure. It's a convenient single-strand fix for busy OM4 patch fields.
One Fiber, Many Uses
Not every job needs a multi-fiber set. A single broken connector or a spare strand can be handled with one simplex pigtail. Technicians often keep a few in the van for fast repairs on OM4 backbones.
Aqua Means Laser-Optimized
TIA-598 assigns aqua to laser-optimized 50 µm multimode fiber, such as OM3 and OM4. The color tells technicians at a glance that this pigtail belongs on a 50 µm link. It shouldn't be spliced to orange 62.5 µm OM1 fiber or yellow single-mode.
OM4 Specs
Its effective modal bandwidth reaches 4,700 MHz·km at 850 nm. It supports 10GBASE-SR to 400 meters and 25GBASE-SR to 100 meters. TIA-568 limits cabled attenuation to 3.5 dB/km at 850 nm and 1.5 dB/km at 1300 nm.
Tight Buffer Construction
The 900 µm buffer is bonded firmly to the 250 µm coated fiber. It resists kinks and crushing in crowded panels. Strip it in short passes of about 1.5 to 2 cm using a precision stripper.
Testing a Single-Fiber Repair
After splicing, check continuity with a visual fault locator. Its red light shows any break or tight bend. Then measure loss with a light source and power meter at 850 nm, and compare the result to readings from the link's original install.
• Connector: LC/UPC, 1.25 mm ceramic ferrule
• Fiber: OM4 50/125 µm
• Fiber count: 1 (simplex)
• Buffer: 0.9 mm tight buffer, aqua
• Fire rating: OFNR
• Length options: 1 m and 3 m
Choosing the Length
The 1 m version suits wall-mount boxes and small enclosures. The 3 m version leaves room to reach a splice drawer in a rack-mount frame and store spare slack.
Matching Multimode Grades
OM4 splices cleanly to OM3 and OM5, since all share a 50 µm core. The link runs at the lowest grade's performance, so match OM4 to OM4 for full reach.
