This simplex single-mode pigtail terminates one OS2 fiber with a factory-polished LC/UPC connector, the standard interface on single-mode SFP and SFP+ optics. The 9/125 µm G.657.A1 glass is bend-insensitive and splices directly onto G.652.D cable.
A yellow 0.9 mm tight buffer protects the strand in trays and enclosures. The buffer is OFNR riser-rated. It works especially well for single-fiber BiDi links, which send and receive over one strand. Bidirectional transceivers send and receive on one fiber using two wavelengths. 1000BASE-BX10 pairs 1310 and 1490 nm, while 10GBASE-BR10 pairs 1270 and 1330 nm. They have a single LC port. A simplex LC pigtail is the natural way to terminate the strand that feeds them, and it saves a fiber on every link.
OS2 and G.657.A1
OS2 single-mode fiber typically measures 0.4 dB/km or less at 1310 nm and 0.3 dB/km at 1550 nm. G.657.A1 adds bend insensitivity with a 10 mm minimum bend radius. At that tightest radius, a single turn costs at most 0.75 dB at 1550 nm.
Tight Buffer Strength
The 900 µm tight buffer bonds directly to the coated fiber. It resists kinks and crushing, which is helpful in shallow wall boxes and busy frames. Strip it in short passes with a precision tool.
LC/UPC Connector
A 1.25 mm ceramic ferrule sits inside a compact latching LC body. Single-mode UPC connectors are blue. Typical return loss is around 50 dB, which suits digital Ethernet and transport links.
Reach With Common Optics
1000BASE-LX and 10GBASE-LR both reach about 10 km over OS2 fiber. 10GBASE-LR has a channel insertion loss budget of about 6.2 dB. Short pigtails and low-loss splices use only a small slice of that.
Picking the Length
The 1 m version keeps small wall-mount boxes and ONT-side enclosures tidy. The 3 m version suits rack frames, where the fiber needs to reach a splice drawer and still leave a service loop.
