G.657.A1 Fiber Specs
G.657.A1 fiber meets the ITU-T bend-insensitive standard. One turn at a 10 mm radius adds no more than 0.75 dB at 1550 nm. Ten turns at 15 mm add no more than 0.25 dB. Its mode field diameter at 1310 nm matches G.652.D, which keeps splice loss low.
Tight Buffer Protection
The 900 µm buffer is bonded tightly to the 250 µm coated fiber. It gives the strand strength and kink resistance during routing. Strip it in short passes of about 1.5 to 2 cm with a precision stripper.
SC/UPC Connector
The SC connector features a 2.5 mm ceramic ferrule and a square push-pull housing. Single-mode UPC connectors are blue. That separates them from green APC connectors, which use an 8-degree angled polish. Never mate the two styles.
Picking the Right Length
The 1 m version fits compact customer boxes and small splice cases. The 3 m version suits rack-mount frames, where the fiber must travel from the adapter panel to a splice drawer and back. When in doubt, choose the longer pigtail, since it leaves room for a re-splice later.
